"But you see in dealing with me, the relatives didn't know that they were dealing with a staunch character and I tell you if there's anything worse than dealing with a staunch woman... S-T-A-U-N-C-H. There's nothing worse, I'm telling you. They don't weaken, no matter what." Little Edie, "Grey Gardens"

British man saws his own car in half to protest the fact that it was clamped for being parked illegally.

Yeah! Way to go! That'll show them...err, him...self.

Well, it appears that "fashion icon" (no, really) Mary-Kate Olsen is the first celebrity to take the next obvious step in the "Using Pets as Fashion Accessories" department:

Instead of toting around a cute little dog inside a bag, she's simply using the entire dog as a bag. It appears to be a Basset Hound and an unhappy one at that.

It's been a slow weird news week so to make up for the lack of weirdness on my blog lately, here's a couple of anteaters wearing sweaters:

Note that the anteater wearing the pink sweater looks as horrified as I feel looking at this abomination. Some animals are cute in sweaters. Anteaters, clearly, are not one of those animals.

As I sit here watching this with my jaw gaping in disbelief I can only come up with one semi-coherent thought: WTF, Disney?

Every so often I run across a photo like this--a volcano erupting simultaneously with a huge thunderstorm overhead--and all I can think is that Mother Nature is basically telling us all "Step off, bitch or I'll go apocolyptic on all your asses!"

Or something like that.

Giant stingrays found near Thailand. Biologists react to this by doing this:

Giving the giant stingray a big group hug! I'm not sure that's the approach I would have taken (actually, my approach would have been more of a departure, rapidly in the opposite direction). But I guess that's why they're the biologists and I'm just a lowly blogger sitting here writing goofy comments about a photo of biologists hugging a giant stingray.

Ghostly images of aliens appear on the wall of a house. Every day. At the same time. And only disappear when the sun goes behind clouds, which can only mean one thing...

These aliens are solar powered!

And people wonder why UFO accounts aren't taken seriously.

Those who know me will be surprised to see a SPIDER here. But see, I've wised up to the evils of Stumble Upon buddies---I'm posting it here to pre-empt all the "LOL look, a spider!" Stumbles I would have gotten featuring this horrible page full of spidery-ickiness. So there. Hah.

I'm also posting it because someone needs to have a record of exactly when spiders started killing snakes and eventually moving their way up the food chain.

This daugerotype was taken in the mid-1800s. This particular elderly gentleman was born in 1749, which means his grandparents were born in the 1600s. So we're looking at the photographic image of someone who was directly linked to (relatively) ancient history. He died at age 107. Imagine what those eyes had seen during his lifetime--over a century...the Revolutionary War (he actually crossed the Delaware with Washington), the French Revolution, the rise and fall of slavery in the US, the beginning of the Industrial Revolution...this man would have been a veritable walking encyclopedia.

And here we sit, 150 years after his death looking into his eyes on a computer screen. It just boggles my mind to think about it. Granted, I'm easily boggled but still...
